I`ve seen the Last Samurai 3 times and intend to see it at least one more time before it leaves the movie houses. The Last Samurai tells a compelling story of two men and the development of a profound spiritually based friendship. It is a tale of two cultures and many sub-stories of love, friendship, greed, amition, power, codes of honour and, above all, it is the story, told in a microcosmic way, of the struggle of life for all human beings. Superb, simply magnificent, excellent storytelling, inspiring and uplifting....Such grandeur, emotionally enveloping...Outstanding cast and crew....Reminds me of Edward Zwick`s other fine film, "Glory" which should have won "Best Picture" for 1989 and Mel Gibson`s "Braveheart"....Purely enjoyable cinematic scope and quality....Congratulations to all the nominees!.....Job well done....A film to be seen and enjoyed by generations to come....

All by itself, that would be a terrific acomplishment and my review would be written and done with. But I really didn`t know anything about this "Ken Watanabe" guy, did I? Not that he`s actually rather easy-going...and not that in real life he looks more like a huggable chipmunk than a slashing Samurai! To be sure, this is silly, but I actually got so obsessed by this that I was downloading pictures of Ken as Katsumoto to my desktop jus

What a joy it was to watch this film. Buy far the Movie of the year!! The reason it doesn`t get the respect it should from the Academy awards is because of it`s negative portrayal of the American government. And we all know how patriotic any American awards organizaation is.

This movie has breathtaking scenery and the supporting cast was great. It almost made up for Tom Cruise taking himself way too seriously throughout the entire film...almost.
