After watching New Line transform his horror creation into a violent and surreal vaudeville comedian, Wes Craven tried to reset the narrative with this meta-horror concoction. There are interesting ideas, but it goes on for far too long and Craven indulges his weakness for ostentatious effects scenes that actually separate the audience from the narrative. Craven also acts in this and gives a terrible performance despite the fact that he's playing himself! Robert Englund is good as always. Worth a look.
