I'm sick of these re-treads. It's all paint-by-numbers filmmaking and I can't recommend seeing it.

I took my grandchildren to see this movie, not expecting to particularly like it. But I enjoyed it as much as they did! It is cute and funny and very well done.

My grandson loved it, but I wasn’t impressed! Being from Brooklyn, they grab my attention in the beginning. I was hoping to see some of the landmarks that would’ve made it look like they were actually in Brooklyn, but sites never materialized! Yes, they were one or two, but nothing more. The characters and colors were “sharp”, but the story itself was somewhat “dull”. I could go on, but this movie wasn’t made for me, it was made for those like my grandson, so I’ll just give it my three stars and leave it at that. It made the little guy happy and that’s what the story was for.

The movie not only brings it to a more realistic space, but there was a history, that tied the to the movie. Going to go back to the theatre to see it again!

They RUINED Super Mario, not just for me but for future generations! I'm so angry but I won't give the producers any more space because they don't deserve it!

The fact that they made a movie from a video game is amazing

I am writing this and trying not to spoil anything. The beginning in Brooklyn was great. Once they go into the Mushroom Kingdom, I immediately said "what the"... Firstly, we've seen the commercials where Mario comes out of the pipe and meets a little mushroom guy with a vest and hiking stick and back pack, but there must have been some back story for the lil mushroom guy and why he was hiking and wanted an adventure which he somehow immediately no questions asked wanted to help Mario and knew exactly where to go. Then Peach not even questioning Mario and suddenly putting him through an obstacle course so fast it felt like they wanted to throw in the games for nostalgia as quick as they could. I did like that Luigi was basically in his haunted mansion which they could have had him notice something or want to do something in there which could lend more weight to his spin off for Luigi's Haunted Mansion. I felt like too many cuts to the next scene were rushed and didn't segue/flow well. ie: When Mario asked Peach if she was from Earth and she didn't give any background or more story than "There's a lot of universes out there." and cuts to the next scene when they were just starting to share a moment. Seemed odd and rushed. They could have added more dialogue and ended with more universes out there which clearly is a nod to Mario Galaxy and more stories to tell. Seth Rogan was great as Donkey Kong. Obviously the right voice and laugh for the character. The plot point that DK and Mario shared disappointing their parents could have been explore further. I wish there was more for Jack Black as he was perfect as well. I noticed many characters were missing which can lead to introducing them in the future. Rainbow Road was great. All-in-all, my kids eyes were glued to the screen so that means something and they only know Mario Kart and a Mario game on my phone! I think it's great for families and there were a lot of Easter eggs to

Loved the game references. The dialogue was hilarious and I loved when I saw rainbow road since I was a huge mario kart fan. The people who put one star here kind of scared me and I doubted I chose the wrong movie to watch, but I was glad I ignored them.

It's obvious the glowing 4 and 5 star reviews are from people who have confused this new take with the 1993 live-action classic. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, but give credit where credit is due...
