The choreography of the dance performances and singing was excellent !!! Each actor gave 110% in this movie .
The music wasn't good, should have left the original stand on its own. They Just want to profit from a classic..
The movie was creative with the dancing and singing. I fell in love with the women in the movie. I felt sad, sorry and happy with these women. I cried in the middle of the movie hoping that Cecei would find her sister and her children. I did not realize the movie was a musical and enjoyed the happiness in the movie. This happiness challenged the sorrow in this movie..I loved this movie!
I am a HUGE fan of the original movie and was Leary of a new version. Although I still prefer the original, Danielle Brooks put a modern twist on Sophia and Fantasia made me look at Celie through a different lens. The direction and writing was superb.I left feeling hopeful and happy.
left after first 15 minutes
Some woman behind me snored through the second half of the movie. That pretty much says it all. Disappointed
I love musicals, but the songs in this movie sound as if a 10 year old wrote them. They aren't even songs. No melodies, juvenile lyrics and no bridges or hooks. The non musical parts were very good with excellent acting. I liked the original very much, but this version just doesn't cut it.
It was good, but so hard to watch all the abuse. Thought it would be a little more light hearted, being a musical this time around.
Taraji P. Henson friggin rocks.
This Broadway version is much better than the original. Musicians and dancers were very talented. Story about women standing up to abuse from men was timely but it moved along too slowly.
