Some really scary scenes here to be sure, but Craven fumbles much more than he hits. The finale is horrible, truly on an Ed Wood level. One has to wonder how this ridiculous ending passed the muster with anyone at New Line Cinema. This movie was so disappointing as it could've been something really special and great. Alas...
One of the Scariest Movies ever made. was one of the best 80's Horror movies ever.
Wes Craven's original is a mixed bag. There's some really scary stuff here. But there are also effects scenes that are so ostentatious they take you out of the film and fracture the illusion. Further undone by a finale that features one of the most laughably cheap special effects you'll ever see.
Nearly thirty years on, it's still CRAP.
Truly one of the best 80s horror movies. While the special effects may not hold up completely, the film is still frightening enough to keep you awake at night. Robert Englund is at his creepy best in this film.
The original was bad enough, but this new version is horrendous. Stop making this garbage!!!
A waste! Wait for HOSTEL III.
Garbage.
Now we're remaking movies that weren't any good in the first place! I'd give it a zero if I could!
HORRIBLY GREAT=)!!
