John Garrity's (Gerard Butler) young son Nathan (Roger Dale Floyd) is watching for a comet named Clarke, but doesn't see it yet. Later, they see government jets flying overhead. They soon hear reports saying that fragments of the comet are hitting Earth and wiping out huge masses of land, killing everyone in the area. When John discovers the military has bunkers in Greenland, he decides to get his family to safety there.
