Phoenix is a pathetic hippie and a bad actor.
Good
Really bad, boring, woke, a very 1960 Italian costume drama; endless hours of Josephine having sex with clothes on, bathing with clothes on... Black guy running around in a general's uniform, supposed to be Dumas, who was only 1/4 black and looked whiter than Obama. Biopic of a general who ran and left 3 armies to all die. History was really bad; Egypt, Moscow, Austerlitz. Stay away. I FF through most of the movie.
Napoleon was a dynamic figure to say the least, but you wouldn't know it from this terminally dry film. The casting of the massively overpraised hippie imbecile Phoenix does the film no favors. Many years ago Stanley Kubrick intended to make the ultimate biopic of Napoleon and he intended to make it the greatest film ever made. Unfortunately his financing fell through and the film was never made. All we have now is a hairlipped reminder of what might have been. Waah-waaah!

I liked the story, since I knew almost nothing about Napoleon. I root for short guys, being short myself. Pretty wife, yum. Was Napoleon as calm as he's portrayed, I wonder
It was too long and Dry it moved super slow & just got boring I was disappointed that this was a Riddly Scott movie
In a superb cast which includes Vanessa Kirkby and Rupert Brooke, and in a film set in nineteenth century Europe, Joaquin Phoenix's flat American monotone and stilted acting are jarring. Did no one else audition for the role?
Amazing battle scenes. Stupid sex scenes!
Too much about the romance.
