JAUME BALAGUERO
Date of Birth: November 2, 1968
Born in Lérida, Spain, Jaume Balagueró grew up in Barcelona. He studied photography and cinematography, and graduated in 1991 with a degree in Communication Sciences. He first worked as a freelance journalist for various movie magazines and as a talk show radio host, then began his film career with shorts, which received awards at a number of international festivals.
Balagueró made his feature film directorial debut with the critically-acclaimed horror flick, Los sin nombre (1999). Not only did it win numerous awards at film festivals around the world, it was a box-office hit in Spain and opened in limited release in many other countries.
His second feature film, Darkness, was a huge financial success when it debuted in 2002 in Spain. Starring Anna Paquin, it received wider international release than his first film and received several nominations for best film from various festivals.
Balagueró, who continues to make his home in Barcelona, has already wrapped production on a third film, Fragile (2005) starring Calista Flockhart and Gemma Jones, and is working on another Spanish-language horror film called Películas para no dormir (2005).
