A little slow to develop but the little girl (Chuniya) and Seema Biswas delivered moving performances that made the movie...otherwise would have been a bit dry...
I loved the cinematography and the music. But, the storyline was weak, the characters were not fully developed and didn`t capture the true essence of the deprivation that widows in India experience. I was disappointed that I didn`t walk out of the theatre truly moved.
Best movie I have seen this year, I recommend everyone to see it.
Stunning.I particularly enjoyed the performance of Seema Biswas as Shakuntula.
great movie
Brilliant and Beautiful
Wasn`t sure what the point was. Apart from the history lesson, of course. If it`s still happening today, people haven`t learned from it and Gandhi`s influence wasn`t that great, it seems. It was just sad. So sad and cruel. I wouldn`t recommend it to anyone.
This movie was one of the biggest let downs of the year. There was such an opportunity here that was missed at every turn. There were great characters too many perhaps and as a result Deepa could not fully develop any characters properly. Too many storylines for my liking. Could Lisa Ray not ahve done what some of the other widowers did in the movie why add some many people. The movie was very slow as a result and when you were all ready for a great climatic scene it seemed to just end and move on to the next. Too much time devoted to artistic impression then having what could have been a breakthrough hollywood hit. Sorry Lisa looks like you`
simply BRILLIANT.
The best movie Deepa has done to date!!! Provoked a lot of discussion with my friends, and inspired me to keep changing the world for the better through action and knowledge.--Cassandra Williams(Deepa`s set nurse for Bollywood Hollywood).
