Alexander Strauss (Steve Carrell), a psychotherapist mourning the loss of his wife, finds himself imprisoned by serial killer patient Sam Fortner (Domhnall Gleeson), who is seeking treatment for his homicidal desires. Strauss is forced to treat Fortner while struggling to free himself.
