During the Depression, University of Washington student Joe Rantz (Callum Turner) is struggling to make ends meet. He finds out that if he can make the rowing team, he'll receive a part-time job and a place to live. Coach Ulbrickson (Joel Edgerton) works the team hard as they struggle to get to the Olympics.
