I loved the cinematography and how the wheat and sunlight seemed to symbolize freedom and child`s innocence. Once they started to crop the wheat, evil stepped into the movie. Although I had predicted the ending, it didn`t prevent the movie from effecting me emotionally. One of the best movies I`ve seen in a while.

The bleeding, dead chicken at the very beginning just didn`t belong. It had no relationship to the movie and made it appear as something it wasn`t. Otherwise, I loved the tenderness with which the boy (Michele) ultimately comes to the rescue of the captive boy, balanced with the reality of realizing there is nothing else he can do for him. The cinematography was just superb, and the use of a string quartet in the background was to me simply stunning. I`ve watched it twice, and I`ll definitely watch it again.
