The writer of this movie is Mo Yan--very kind and thoughtful writer. Yimou Zhang rocks. Even though, he is not so sophisticated like Ang Lee. But I have to admit that this director will get OSCAR soon. Love HAPPY TIMES. I CRIED.

happy times is a sweet movie that i throughly enjoyed. i would have preferred a happier ending and would be interested in a sequel to see what happens to the characters. tj

saw it late last night on cbc tv. those who like their movies tied up, with a nice bow, at the end may feel somewhat bewildered & cheated but a wonderful, often humourous, movie dealing with decency and courage. well worth viewing.
