Great movie. Perhaps the reason the Japanese didn't cut the ropes is because they wanted the enemy to come to them so they could get their licks in after having the ships bombard them from offshore. The ropes also could have been secured on the cliffside as well smart guy.

An incredible true story that needed to be told. The movie draws you into all of the experiences this young soldier endures during a fire fight. In addition it shows the strength that comes forth when faced with incredible adverserial situations.
