Mercy

Thomas, a Swiss policeman, who at the end of a three-month stay at Lac Simon in Abitibi, Quebec, comes across the body of a 13-year-old Aboriginal boy who was hit while riding his bike by a trucker who fled the scene. Thomas, who made a terrible mistake in his recent past for which he feels enormous guilt, decides to delay his departure and promises the boy’s mother that he’ll find the driver and bring him back to the reserve. For her part, the mother of the boy keeps his corpse in her house, refusing to go ahead with a funeral until the murderer has asked for forgiveness. When the autopsy reveals that the cyclist was high on drugs and alcohol, the latter's alcoholic uncle is riddled with remorse, believing he was a bad influence on the boy. He decides to join the hunt for the trucker.
