Kyle (Nicolas Cage), a real estate agent, lives in an isolated, museum-like mansion with his wife Sarah (Nicole Kidman) and their adoles­cent daughter Avery (Liana Liberato).

The three are at home preparing to have a nice family dinner when unexpected visitors arrive, wearing masks, making demands and pack­ing heat, but Kyle refuses to cooperate.
