Arbor (Conner Chapman), 13, and his best friend Swifty (Shaun Thomas) are outsiders in their own neighborhood when they're kicked out of school for fighting. They begin to hang out at the local scrapyard, where they meet Kitten (Sean Gilder), a local scrapdealer called the Selfish Giant.
Arbor emulates Kitten in an effort to impress him and make some money. However, Kitten favors Swifty, who has a natural gift with horses and lets him help train a horse for buggy racing. Arbor winds up feeling hurt and excluded.
