George A. Romero's 1968 original is a genuinely great film. It is a flawed masterpiece. Much of the dialogue is clunky, some scenes go on too long, Romero hadn't quite mastered some technical aspects, and he didn't really know what to do with the character of Barbara in the second act. In this remake Romero demonstrates that he has clearly become a better screenwriter since his debut, but this one lacks the original's raw urgency and unprecedented shocks. This one's still okay but not as good as the original even though it improves on the original on a professional level. Lead actress Patricia Tallman is quite good here. The music score is rather weird but I don't think it worked. The film is still worth a watch on a rainy weekend afternoon. Check it out if you like.
