Date of Birth: December 9, 1963

Vadim Jean began his career directing commercials for products such as Blockbuster Video, Woolworths, The Observer and Mercury 121 Mobile Phones. He then moved on to music videos for Elton John and Oasis before co-directing his first feature film, Leon the Pig Farmer (1992). For his work he won an Evening Standard British Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer, a Chaplin Award for Best First Feature at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, British Newcomer of the Year from the London Critics Circle and the FIPRESCI Prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Jean branched out on his own as director for the horror film Beyond Bedlam, co-writing the screenplay from a novel by John Brosnan. Although the film was nominated for an International Fantasy Film Award at Fantasporto, it was largely forgettable. He had more success with Clockwork Mice (1995), which went on to win even more awards than his first film, including a Golden Gryphon at the Giffoni Festival, a Silver Griffen for Best Film, a Young People's Jury Prize and the Critics Prize at the Frankfurt Lucas Film Festival for Young People.

His following feature, The Real Howard Spitz (1999) starring Kelsey Grammer won Best Film at Belfast's Cinemagic Film Festival. His fifth film, One More Kiss (2000) starring Gerard Butler won the Audience Award at the Atlantic Film Festival and an Emden Film Award at the Emden International Film Festival. Butler and Jean became best of friends, and decided to work on another film together. Burns, a biopic about Scottish poet Robert Burns, stars Butler in on the title role with Julia Stiles playing his love interest.
