EMILY MORTIMER

Date of Birth: December 1, 1971

Probably most well-known for playing Kat, Queen Elizabeth's hand-maiden who died in a poisoned dress in the critically acclaimed feature Elizabeth, British-born actress Emily Mortimer graduated from Oxford University in 1994 and went on to study acting at the Moscow Arts School of Theatre.

She began her career performing in several acclaimed stage productions, including The Lights at the Royal Court Theatre and The Merchant of Venice at Edinburgh's Lyceum Theatre.

She went on to work in television and feature films with roles in Elizabeth, Notting Hill and the television mini-series Noah's Ark.

During the beginning of the new millennium, Mortimer appeared in a number of films including Scream 3, Love's Labour's Lost, The Kid and The Sleeping Dictionary, as well as lending her voice to the television film, The Miracle Maker. In 2004 she received an Empire Award nomination for her role in Young Adam. The following year, she received a nomination from the European Film Awards for her work in Dear Frankie (2004). In 2007 she was nominated for a Satellite Award for her performance in Lars and the Real Girl (2007) and in 2009, she was nominated as Best Actress at the Saturn Awards for Transsiberian (2008).

In 2009, Emily joined forces with Steve Martin for The Pink Panther 2 and in 2010, teamed up with Leonardo DiCaprio for the thriller Shutter Island.

Her latest credits include 10,000 Saints (2015) with Ethan Hawke, Spectral (2016), the drama The Sense of an Ending (2017) with Jim Broadbent, The Party (2018) with Kristin Scott Thomas and Mary Poppins Returns (2018), in the role of the grown up Jane Banks.

On January 3, 2003, Emily married American-born actor Alessandro Nivola. They live with their son and daughter in Los Angeles.
