The Vanished President (Le Tigre et le Président)

In 1920, idealistic intellectual Paul Deschanel was elected President of the French Republic, to the great disappointment of the favorite, Georges Clémenceau, considered by a large part of the population as the great winner of the 1914-18 war. Behind the scenes, the old politician, nicknamed the "Tiger," strategizes to bring down his opponent.

The latter, immersed in the writing of a speech that he feels will be crucial for the future of France, gradually loses contact with reality. Falling from a train in the middle of the night in the middle of the countryside, Deschanel is picked up and cared for by a railway trackman and his family. Taking advantage of Deschanel’s absence, Clemenceau announces to parliament his intention to replace him as president.

In French with English subtitles.
