Year of the Drag- In

Along the Pacific Ocean coastline near Santa Cruz, CA, is a spot known as Mavericks Cove, which is legendary among surfers for its strong, challenging waves -- so challenging in fact that for years many board enthusiasts regarded them as too large and too dangerous to ride. However, in late 1999 and early 2000, a combination of relatively subdued conditions and a handful of brave and adventurous riders put surfers on the waves of Mavericks Cove for the first time in years, and documentary filmmakers Curt Myers and Frank Quirarte were on hand with cameras to record the spectacular action as strong-hearted pros Shawn Barron and Peter Mel conquered the awe-inspiring swells. Year of the Drag-In also features music by several modern-day surf combos, including The Mermen and The Aqua Velvets.
