The Dud Effect

The film was shot at an abandoned former Soviet base in Lithuania. During the Cold War this site played home to R-12 nuclear missiles, aimed at the West. The film uses archival photo material alongside shots from the half destroyed base and the vast catacombs beneath it. The main character, Evgeny Terentiev, a former officer who has served in such Lithuanian regiments, is performing the launch of the R-12 nuclear missile; he still remembers the commands by heart.
