Ninth Floor

In February 1969, on the Sir George Williams College campus of Concordia University, six black students accused their biology teacher, Perry Anderson, of racism. They were able to demonstrate that they received lower marks than their white peers for identical work. Accompanied by supporters, they occupied the computer rooms on the ninth floor. In the wake of Expo 67 and at the height of the Civil Rights movement in the U.S., Canadians realize they are much more prejudiced than they thought.

Fourteen days later, a fire mysteriously breaks out on the ninth floor. The peaceful demonstration ends in chaos and leads to the arrest of 97 militants. More than 45 years later, documentary filmmaker Mina Shum meets with participants and eyewitnesses on the spot where these unfortunate events occurred.
