Golden Gate Girls

This project, a film documentary on Esther Eng, began when four photo albums and dozens of film stills related to her life were donated to the Hong Kong Film Archive by a film-loving Chinese American pharmacist, James Wong. In all, nearly six hundred pho- tos had been carefully arranged in roughly chronological order, some dated with a fountain pen and the album covers revealing the same delicate handwriting or drawing style in white ink. The pictures apparently showcase of the life of Esther Eng, but was it she who created the albums?
