Children of Teheran

After the Nazi occupation of Poland, thousands of Jewish families fled into the Soviet Union, and were shipped to labour camps in Siberia. Subsequently many went to Central Asia, where many died of hunger and disease. To save their children, some Jewish parents placed them in Christian orphanages. When Polish troops were shipped to the battlefields via Teheran many of the children from the Christian orphanages accompanied them. The Jewish Agency sent emissaries to Teheran and in February 1943, 700 Jewish children arrived in Palestine. This is the remarkable, mostly forgotten story of these Children of Teheran.
