Left in Pitch Darkness with No Emergency Lights Directly After 8:10 P.M. Ended Due To Theatre Being Closed Early
August 07, 2019
I am handicap -was on a walker, my sister has a complete spine fusion with many rods and pins. We were with my 31 year old son-to see the Avengers-End Game in Theatre 4 at 8:10 P.M. on 8-5-2019. After buying tickets out front, no further employees seen; no one to take tickets and no concessions. No other patrons were seen buying tickets or in the hallways. We sat in the center back row. There was a handful of people in our theatre-3 left directly after movie scenes and 2 left shortly after credits began. We got immediately to leave as soon as the credits ended. The lights went out in the theatre 4 as soon as the credits ended and there was no emergency lighting. My son opened the doorway to the hallway to let some light in. As soon as we stepped into the hallway, the lights were turned off and there was no emergency lighting. I began screaming that we were still there, but no lights were turned on. My son got out his cell phone to use the flashlight as we were completely disoriented in the pitch dark. It wasn't until we got near the foyer with my continued yelling, that someone turned enough lighting in the foyer so we could leave. The next day, the manager said the projectionist didn't see us in the theater 4. She insisted that's how they check for vacancy, and that's how they will continue to check for vacancy. I questioned how they would know patrons would be in restrooms. She also stated that it had been awhile since they had someone collecting tickets. I tried to convey the danger of falling in the pitch dark as well as the chance of someone being left behind in a theater or bathroom with a medical emergency. The manager told me that I had to understand that they had many evenings of no patrons in the entire theater and we accustomed to just closing up. She added that they closed up early. The manager offered me free tickets which I declined, as she was not intending to change their policy considering safety for patrons.
