20th Century Women - Official Trailer 2

In the second official trailer for 20th Century Women, we're taken to 1979 Santa Barbara where Dorothea Fields (Annette Bening) makes the following statement as various images are featured: "When you were born, I told you life was very big and unknown. There were animals and cities and music. You'd fall in love, have passions, have meaning. But now it's 1979 and nothing means anything, and I know you less every day."

We learn that Dorothea is addressing her son Jamie (Lucas Jade Zumann). She is a single mother in her mid-50s trying to raise adolescent Jamie without the help of a man. To alleviate some of the strain, she enlists the help of two younger women - free spirited artist Abbie (Greta Gerwig) and the provocative Julie (Elle Fanning).

We watch as Dorothea and Jamie try to figure each other out, and see Jamie encounter many of the rites of passages inherent in growing up. As the trailer closes, Dorothea tells her son, "The people who help you, they might not be who you thought or wanted. They might just be the people who show up."
