Nicknamed "The Marsh Girl," Kya Clarke (Daisy Edgar-Jones) learns to fend for herself after being abandoned by her family at a young age. As she grows up, she attracts the attention of two young men: one who teaches her how to read and write and another that promises her marriage. When one of the men is mysteriously found dead, Kya finds herself at the center of a murder trial.
