I almost left after the first forty-five minutes, but given the headlines, stayed until the end while hoping there would be at least one redeeming aspect of this dreary film. There wasn't, and indeed it just got worse. It seemed to be a movie in search of a reason to be, but finding none, was released anyway.

I should have known that a movie based on a William S. Burroughs novel would not be my cup of tea--or glass of hooch, or line of coke--but I wanted to see Daniel Craig try something new. If you enjoy seeing people smoke, drink, shoot heroin, and abuse each other, then this is the movie for you. I didn't make it to the end.
