What more can be said about Edith Piaf (1915-1963), the legendary icon affectionately known as Little Sparrow? Well, plenty, as it turns out. With loving detail, writer-director Olivier Dahan builds a solid story that weaves back and forth in time like Piaf’s own memories during the sad decay of her final years. We feel her confusion as a child, while she’s shuffled between her alcoholic, street singing mother, her circus performer father, and her paternal grandmother, a madam. We also watch as, a plucky girl of 20, she is discovered singing in the tough Paris neighbourhood of Belleville. Piaf’s own recordings infuse the sound track with the passion she developed first-hand knowledge of

Greatest movie I've seen in a long time - the story of Edith Piaf's life is real and so well played - I'll see it a dozen times.

What a life. What a tragedy. One wonders why some people (let themselves) go through so much hell. It took me a little time to get familiar with the time acrobatics(back...forth...back...etc) of the script.

Incredibly powerful film--exhausted and exasperated after its completion. Symbolism, metaphors and amazing acting. A must see. Cannot wait to see it again!!

Superb, artful job. Characters were fleshed out with great attention to realistic clothing, settings, and dialogue. Story of Piaf's life is very heart wrenching. You really believe the actors are real people.
