Born in Alta, Norway, Tommy Wirkola is an established filmmaker who easily takes on various roles in the filmmaking process. Raised in Norway and being of Finnish Sami heritage, Wirkola tends to create movies about his culture.

Two years later, he again took on the role of writer, director, producer and actor for the zombie horror comedy Dead Snow, about an army of Nazi zombies haunting the woods in contemporary Norway.

Wirkola made his English-language debut with Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters starringJeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton in the title roles. He both directed and wrote the screenplay for the movie.

Keeping up with his talent for quasi-gorey and borderline horror films, Wirkola also released Kurt Josef Wagle and The Legend of the Fjord Witch, a horror film along the same lines of Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project.

Wirkola is also trying his hand at small screen writing with the television show Hellfjord and is working on a sequel to Kill Buljo. He also directed the 2013 film Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton.
