ROY DUPUIS
Date of Birth: April 21, 1963
Born in Amos, Quebec, Roy Dupuis was raised in Amos until he was 11, then Kapuskasing, Ontario, where he learned to speak English, and when his parents divorced, he moved with his mother and siblings to Laval, a suburb of Montreal, Quebec. From there it was a nearby journey to the prestigious National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal, from which he graduated in 1986.
It didn't take long for Roy to become a household name in Quebec when he played Ovila, the handsome but neglectful and alcoholic husband of the main character in the series Emilie/Les Filles de Caleb (1990). He won a Gémeaux for Best Male Actor for his performance.
Work began pouring in, and he accepted regular roles on series such as Scoop (1992), Blanche (1993), Dark Eyes (1995) and the American series La Femme Nikita (1997 to 2001), the latter which developed an international fan base for the handsome young actor.
Dupuis has also played roles in many major Quebec releases, including Jesus de Montreal (1989), Being at Home with Claude (1992), Séraphin: Heart of Stone/Séraphin: un home et son péché (2002), The Barbarian Invasions/Les invasions barbares (2003), Machine Gun Molly/Monica la mitraille (2004) and Maurice Richard/The Rocket (2006).
For his performance as a man who emerges from a lengthy coma with amnesia in Looking for Alexander/Mémoires affectives, he earned a Best Actor Award at the 2005 Genie Awards. In 2008, he won a Jutra award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for his work in Shake Hands with the Devil (2007).
In his spare time, Roy enjoys sailing. He lives in an 1840s farmhouse in the Quebec countryside, which he renovated and restored himself.
