MAURA TIERNEY

Date of Birth: February 3, 1965

Known to many television viewers as Lisa Miller from the hit series NewsRadio, Tierney was born in Boston and started her education in an all-girls Catholic school. She continued her schooling at New York University and Circle-in-the-Square Theatre School.

After graduating, Maura thought she'd give L.A. a whirl so she moved to the coast with three friends. "I was just going to spend two months out here, then go back to New York. But I got a job, met an agent and then ended up staying here."

Stage work followed in productions of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Bald Soprano, Baby with Bathwater, and Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. Though television and film work followed, it wasn't until 1994 that the young actress had her first starring role on television in the comedy series 704 Hauser. A year later she landed the starring role in NewsRadio, the series that launched her career.

During her four-year stint on the show alongside Canada's own David Foley, Maura kept herself busy with multiple film roles during her off season. Major roles in Primal Fear (1996) and Liar Liar (1997) playing Jim Carrey's wife, were followed by starring roles in Primary Colors (1998), Forces of Nature (1999) and Instinct (1999).

In 2000 she was recruited onto the popular television series ER to play Nurse Abby Wyczensky Lockhart. By year's end, she had already earned her first Emmy and TV Guide Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. While working on ER, she continued to land starring roles in features like Scotland, P.A. (2001), Insomnia (2002) and Welcome to Mooseport (2004). She's also had acting credits in such films as Semi-Pro (2008), Baby Mama (2008), and Nature Calls (2012).

Most recently, Maura returned to theaters in the drama Beautiful Boy (2018) with Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet.

Maura married actor and director Billy Morrissette in 1993 but filed for divorce in 2006 after 13 years of marriage. The two had no children together.
