KATE NELLIGAN

Date of Birth: March 16, 1951

Although mostly known as a stage actress of astonishing breadth and accomplishment, Nelligan has been known to grace a film or two with her esteemed presence, most notable in The Prince of Tides for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Born in London, Ontario, Canada, Nelligan first discovered her affinity for the limelight when she took to the stage at the University of Toronto. But after only two years at the U of T, Nelligan took her act overseas to London England's Central School of Speech and Drama, eventually making her London stage debut in 1974 before starring in many West End and Broadway productions. But she still fondly remembers her first time on stage in Toronto: "I didn't feel elated or ecstatic -- just at home," she says. "From that day forward, I never thought I would do anything else. Acting satisfied something very deep in me and I suppose it still does."
