Date of Birth: March 24, 1973

Jim Parsons was born in Houston, Texas and got his first taste of acting when he was six years old, playing a bird in a school play. Jim's father, Milton Joseph "Mickey," who was president of a plumbing company, died April 29, 2001 in a car accident. His mother Judy Ann and sister Julie Ann are teachers at the same school. Jim's favorite show growing up was Three’s Company and credits it for influencing him, along with The Cosby Show and Family Ties.

After graduating from Klein Oak High School in Harris County, Texas, Jim studied theatre at the University of Houston, where he appeared in 17 plays over the course of three years, such as Endgame, Guys and Dolls, Othello and Cherry Orchard. Jim would go on to a Masters course at the University of San Diego and then moved to New York, where he worked in off-Broadway productions and TV commercials. In 2004 he landed a recurring role on the TV series Judging Amy.

Jim would reach TV stardom in 2006 when he was cast as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory. In 2011, he won a Golden Globe for his role on the show. He has also won four Primetime Emmy Awards, two Critics Choice Television Awards and a Teen Choice Award. On March 11, 2015, he was presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Jim currently makes $1 million dollars per episode.

Although most of Jim’s career has been in television, he has appeared in films such as Garden State (2004) alongside Zach Braff and Natalie Portman, School for Scoundrels (2006), The Muppets (2011), Wish I Was Here (2014) and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile (2019). He also voiced the lead character, Oh, in the animated DreamWorks feature Home (2015).

In 2013, Jim appeared on an episode of TLC's Who Do You Think You Are?, tracing his family history on his father’s side to Louisiana Creole and French heritage.

Jim married his graphic designer boyfriend, Todd Spiewak, in 2017. An avid sports fan, Jim enjoys watching tennis, basketball and baseball.
