Frances Fisher was born in Hampshire, England to American parents Olga Rosine and William Irving Fisher Sr. When she was a child, the family often moved for her father's job as an oil refinery construction superintendent. She moved nine times in her first 15 years, living all around the world including Italy, Columbia, Turkey, France, and Canada.

After her mother passed away when Frances was 15 years old, she started caring for her younger brother while also attending high school at Lutcher Stark High School in Texas. This is where she started performing in the theatre. She discovered her passion for performing and acting and began to take it seriously. After high school, Frances moved to New York City to pursue her stage career and acted for 14 years off-Broadway.

Eventually, she started to land small roles on shows and in films. Her big break on television came in 1976 when she was cast as Detective Deborah Saxon on The Edge of Night. Frances is also known for her roles as Suzette Saxon on Guiding Light (1985), as Dr. Elizabeth Carson on Becker (1999), as Brit Hanley on The Lyon’s Den (2003), as Nicole Farington on Touch (2013), as Jane Crawford on Watchmen (2019), and many more.

Frances is also well known for her roles in film including playing Strawberry Alice in Unforgiven (1992), Ruth DeWitt Bukater in Titanic (1997), D.A. Cecilia Nussbaum in True Crime (1999), and Sara Miller in Laws of Attraction (2004).

She has been nominated for five awards including the 2012 Maverick Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Feature Film, and the 2024 Canadian Screen Award for Performance in a Supporting Role for Drama. Frances has also won two awards including the 2018 Kidscreen Award for Best Acting and the 2022 Next Generation Indie Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Feature Film.

Frances is very active in the community. She served as SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Chapter’s first vice president and has been a member of the Screen Actors Guild National Board of Directors since before the merger with AFTRA. She has campaigned for political candidates, participated in protests, including the Standing Rock protest, and filed a lawsuit against SAG-AFTRA for deceiving actors to agree to reduced benefits.

When Frances was 18 years old, she married Billy Mack Hamilton, whom she divorced two years later. Later, she started a relationship with Clint Eastwood, with whom she has a daughter named Francesca. ~Mackenzie Heidrick
