Date of Birth: July 9, 1992
Douglas Booth was born in London, England to a half-Dutch, half-Spanish mother and English father. He struggled with dyslexia as a child, but was determined and maintained solid marks through school. He wanted to act since he was a child, playing Greek king Agamemnon in a school play when he was 12. Douglas joined the National Youth Theatre at the age of 13, despite being among much older students. He earned his General Certificate of Secondary Education from Lingfield Notre Dame School before signing with agent Curtis Brown and making his foray into the world of film.
In 2006, Douglas made his feature film debut in Hungers of the Kahri. This was followed by From Time to Time in 2009, in which he starred alongside Timothy Spall and Maggie Smith. In 2010, he played British singer Boy George in the biographical TV movie Worried About the Boy. That year, he also starred in all eight episodes of the Starz television miniseries The Pillars of the Earth, which featured an ensemble cast including Ian McShane, Eddie Redmayne, Hayley Atwell and Donald Sutherland. In 2011, Douglas starred as the lead character Pip in BBC’s mini-series adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel Great Expectations.
Douglas would be introduced to American audiences in 2012’s LOL, a remake of the French comedy Lola. He played the male lead alongside Miley Cyrus. He was then cast as Romeo in Carlo Carlei’s 2013 adaptation of Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. It was the first traditional (not set in modern times) adaptation of the romantic tragedy since Franco Zeffirelli’s critically acclaimed 1968 adaptation.
Douglas also played a role in Darren Aronofsky’s 2014 epic Noah (2014), as the son of the Biblical figure, played by Russell Crowe, and starred in the Wachowski Brothers’ Jupiter Ascending (2015), starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis.
More recent roles include the Vincent Van Gogh film Loving Vincent (2017), the thriller The Limehouse Golem (2017) and the period drama, Mary Shelley (2018).
