David Mirkin

DAVID MIRKIN

Writer, director and executive producer, Mirkin began his career on stage doing stand-up comedy in New York City and around the United States.

In 1984 he left the stage and began writing for television shows like Three's a Crowd, The Simpsons and Newhart. Soon after signing on with the Newhart writing team, the studio promoted him to executive producer of the show. He continued to write for the show and also took the opportunity to direct for the first time. Two years after joining the show he garnered an Emmy nomination for Best Writing in a Comedy Series.

He moved onto a shows like Get a Life, The Larry Sanders Show and The Edge, before taking over The Simpsons in 1994. Working as executive producer, he continued to write and direct numerous episodes, and received three Emmy awards for his efforts.

With an interest in the 'big' picture, Mirkin took his first stab at the feature film industry in 1997 with the comedy Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. The film became a mediocre hit with mixed reactions from the critics, various low-key nominations for the actors and an average box office take.

He tried again in 2001 with Heartbreakers, which sported bigger stars, including Sigourney Weaver, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Gene Hackman.

Mirkin lives in Los Angeles.
