Exil

When his journalist father is kidnapped, Samuel, a 12-year-old Haitian, leaves Port-au-Prince with his aunt to take refuge with her family in the countryside. Learning from his cousin Wilson that his mother, whom he thought was dead, lives in the United States, Samuel convinces the teenager to travel with him to America. However, Wilson betrays his young cousin, so Samuel secretly embarks on a boat headed for the United States. Upon arrival, he’s put into the charge of a woman who works at a reception center in Miami. Carrying a photo of his mother, Samuel decides to go on his own and find her, promising that he will return to pick up Rose, a little girl he met en route, whose mother drowned. During a perilous journey that will lead him to Montreal via New York, the boy comes across some good people who help him.
