The trailer for Marshall opens on Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman) sitting at a bar, saying, "You gentlemen are making a big mistake." Several thugs jump him and Marshall efficiently fights them off until another black man points a gun at the thugs and calmly tells them, "This here is Thurgood Marshall. He is an attorney. You will treat him with the respect that he deserves." Marshall decides to take on the case of Joseph Spell (Sterling K. Brown), a black servant accused of attacking a white socialite in her own bedroom. Marshall tells Spell he only defends innocent people, and Spell vows he never touched the woman. However, Marshall finds out Spell lied in a sworn statement, which complicates matters.
