In the official trailer for Dean, a man (Demetri Martin) is shown drawing. A sweet and encouraging voicemail from his mother plays and it becomes clear that she has recently died.

The trailer continues by introducing us to Dean's father (Kevin Kline). In the wake of his wife's death, he's looking to sell the family home and relies on the help of a real estate agent (Mary Steenburgen) to do so. 

The remainder of the trailer features endearing scenes of Dean discovering himself and trying to move on after his mother's passing. He and his father are pulled closer as a result of her death, and his father also strikes up a relationship with the real estate agent.
