A little girl named Ella has a loving mother, but when she dies, her father remarries a woman (Cate Blanchett) with two daughers of her own. When her father also passes away, her stepmother turns Ella into a servant that she and her two daughters call "Cinderella." Although she meets the prince while out on a horseback ride, her stepmother refuses to allow her to attend a ball. Crying, she meets an old crone who turns into her fairy godmother (Helena Bonham-Carter), who turns things around.
