In the trailer for Birds of Passage, when Rapayet (José Acosta) enters the drug trafficking business in the 1970s he finds quick success in bringing wealth to both his family and that of his wife Zaida (Natalia Reyes). Despite disapproval of his tribe’s matriarch, Ursula (Carmiña Martínez), Rapayet's struggle to gain power by ignoring ancient omens sets his family, his tribe, and his culture on the route to destruction.
