In the official trailer for A Monster Calls, Connor (Lewis MacDougall) is getting a lesson in drawing from his mother (Felicity Jones). We see several of their sketches, including a monster. The monster (Liam Neeson) comes to life. He tells Connor he knows everything there is to know about him. The two work together to destroy Connor's school.

We see footage of Connor's hospital-ridden mother telling her son: "If you need to break things, by God you break them."
