Sam Weisman

SAM WEISMAN

A Binghamton, New York native, Weisman attended Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts and received his bachelor's degree from Yale University. Although he acquired a taste for performing and directing while at University, he began teaching high school English after graduating.

The call to perform finally became too great to ignore, and he soon found himself back in University to earn a master's degree in fine arts for acting and directing. Upon graduating, he began landing roles on New York stages. Wiseman then ventured to Los Angeles where he earned a recurring role on the comedy series Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.

After a few more stints in television, Weisman decided to start working behind the camera. He began directing television shows like Family Ties, Who's the Boss, Moonlighting and L.A. Law.

In 1994 he made his first move on the feature film industry. Starting with the Mighty Ducks sequel, his first attempt proved to be a good one, though it didn't come close to the success of the first film. He quickly followed up D2: The Mighty Ducks with Bye Bye Love. Focusing on three single dads, the film, which had Weisman's two kids co-starring, failed to gain much respect from critics or viewers.

Weisman returned to television for the next few years, directing shows like The Single Guy and 7th Heaven.

In 1997 he returned to the big screen with the popular George of the Jungle, starring Brendan Fraser, followed by The Out-of-Towners (1999) starring Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn, and What's the Worst that Could Happen? starring Martin Lawrence and Danny DeVito. Weisman also teaches at Brandeis University, and directed the play Arcadia.

Married to actress Constance McCashin, he is the father of two children, Daniel and Marguerite. He lives with his family in Los Angeles.
