Roger Kumble

ROGER KUMBLE

Date of Birth: May 28, 1996

Hailing from the Big Apple, Kumble started his career writing for the stage. His first play, the critically acclaimed Pay or Play, garnered the LA Weekly Award for Best Comic Writing. His second venture, d-girl, picked up where his first play left off, and earned him four Dramalogue Awards.

During his success on stage, Kumble was trying to break into film. His first attempts saw him help write scripts for films like Dumb & Dumber (1994), Kingpin (1996), and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1995), but he remained uncredited for his work. Other films like National Lampoon's Senior Trip (1995) and Provocateur (1996), both of which he wrote, were credited to his name, but neither earned him much of a reputation in film.

In 1999 that was about to change. Kumble wrote and directed the feature film Cruel Intentions. The film, which cast up-and-comers like Ryan Phillippe, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon, was a modern teen version of Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Faring well at the box office, it provided a springboard for the young stars who earned numerous awards from the more junior ceremonies such as the Blockbuster awards, MTV Movie Awards and Teen Choice Awards.

Kumble followed up the film with a telefilm of the sequel in 2001, and directed his second feature film, The Sweetest Thing in 2002. His third film, Just Friends, starred Ryan Reynolds and his fourth film, College Road Trip, starred Martin Lawrence and Raven Symone. His latest film, Furry Vengeance, stars Brendan Fraser.

He and his wife Mary have two children.
