ROB COHEN

Date of Birth: March 12, 1949

Born in Cornwall, New York, Cohen took a golden opportunity to help direct the telefilm Silent Night, Lonely Night, while completing his studies at Harvard University. Degree in hand, Cohen moved to Los Angeles to become a reader for International Famous Agency.

After moving to Fox Television, Cohen became a director specializing in television movies. By the mid-1970s he made his move into the motion picture industry by producing a number of projects including Mahogany, The Wiz and the picturesque baseball comedy The Bingo Long Travelling All-Stars and Motor Kings (1976). By the end of the '70s Cohen had created his own production company which continued to produce films like The Witches of Eastwick and The Running Man, as well as television shows until the late 1990s.

With a strong foothold in the producer's chair, Cohen turned to directing films on his own. Starting with A Small Circle of Friends in 1980, and Scandalous (his first screenplay) four years later, he turned back to the small screen to direct two hit series, Miami Vice and Thirtysomething. He returned to the big screen in the early '90s to complete three big films, all of which fared well at the box office.

In 1998, he was honoured with multiple Emmy nominations for his telefilm, The Rat Pack, before venturing off to complete two more thriller features, The Skulls (2000) and The Fast and the Furious (2001).

In 2005 he was given the ShoWest award as Director of the Year.
