RHONA MITRA

Date of Birth: August 9, 1976

A native Londoner, Rhona Mitra was kicked out of two Catholic boarding schools in her formative years, following her parents' divorce. She later attended drama school, but dropped out after a year. She told Blackbook in their March/April 2003 issue: "Institutions and me don't work well together."

Early in her career, Mitra took on any work she could find, including playing Tomb Raider's Lara Croft at trade shows. After four years of working in British theater, television and film, and especially following her lead role in the American-produced motion picture Beowulf (1999), Mitra decided to try her luck in Los Angeles. Her first job after moving was a recurring guest role on the hit TV series Party of Five, followed by her challenging first American-shot film role-a girl who gets raped by an invisible man in Hollow Man (2000).

In 2001 Mitra landed a regular role as a doctor on the ABC-TV medical drama Gideon's Crossing. Other starring roles on The Practice, Boston Legal and Nip/Tuck made her a familiar face in North America.

On the big screen, she's appeared in Get Carter (2000) starring Sylvester Stallone, Sweet Home Alabama (2002) with Reese Witherspoon, starred opposite James Caviezel in Highwaymen (2003), played a supporting role opposite Jim Carrey in The Number 23 (2007) and the starring role in the thriller Doomsday (2008).

To keep in shape, Mitra enjoys bicycling and rollerblading. Her pet peeve is wind chimes-she once had to ask neighbors to take theirs down because she's so bothered by the sound.
