NAVEEN ANDREWS

Date of Birth: January 17, 1969

Born in London, England, Naveen Andrews shot to fame in the U.S. in 2004 when he landed the role of Sayid in the hit ABC-TV series Lost.

Knowing early on that he wanted to be an actor, Andrews auditioned for and was accepted into London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he studied alongside Ewan McGregor and David Thewlis. He made his screen debut in the independent film London Kills Me (1991). His second film was Wild West (1992), for which he received a Most Promising Newcomer nomination from the Evening Standard Drama Awards.

His first role in a major motion picture was in the Oscar-winning film The English Patient (1996), starring Ralph Fiennes. For his part, Andrews received a Chlotrudis Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor and shared a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast. He then made the move to the States where he began appearing in films such as Mighty Joe Young (1998) starring Charlize Theron and Rollerball (2002), starring Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. He even landed a regular role in the short-lived ABC-TV series The Beast.

Andrews continues to appear weekly on the extremely popular Lost, but has also managed to fit in an appearance in the feature film Bride and Prejudice (2005), directed by Bend It Like Beckham's Gurinder Chadha.

In his spare time, Andrews, who loves country music, enjoys playing guitar and reading. When he was 16, he moved in with his teacher, Geraldine Feakins, with whom he has a son, Jaisal. Andrews now lives in Los Angeles with Barbara Hershey, 21 years his senior.
